Friends of the Library to present
Black History Month program

Thursday will see the return of an African-American Culture Celebration after a three-year hiatus.

The program is designed to celebrate Black history through music, dance, and story is sponsored by Friends of LaGrange Memorial Library.

”This is a program that the library has traditionally hosted, and this will be the first time in three years that it will be held,” said Charlene Baxter, president of Friends of the Library.

Rather than holding the event at the library, which is still under renovation, the storytellers, dancers, and musicians will perform at LaGrange College.

The scheduled performances include storytelling by Felecia T. Moore and Connie Askew, interpretive dance by Minister Efram
Jennings, music by Kenyetta Cotton and the Callaway High School Chorus, West African drumming by Drum Rise and strings by Ethel W. Kight Elementary School and friends.
The program will be held at LaGrange College Beason Recital Hall at 301 Panther Way on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m. Longtime residents will recognize the location as the former gym at West Side Magnet School.

The event is free and open to the public.
