Transforming Historical Harms Workshop

Transforming Historical Harms, A Narrative Change Approach to Community & Societal Transformation.

That’s a mouth full to say. The workshop is indeed power-packed, and you will leave this workshop with lots to talk about. Dr. David Anderson Hooker is a highly sought-after presenter. We were very fortunate to get on his schedule.      SEE DR HOOKER’S BIO

What do we mean by Historical Harms? Historical Harms reflect the compounding advantages and disadvantages. Narratives control Historical Harms. The goal is a narrative of a shared future.

Structures and relationships informed by undergirding narratives create historical harms and perpetuate them.   Historical Harms emerge with Traumagenic events and context and circumstances. A knowledge was formed, and that knowledge infuses the stories and structures, and they create and distribute power in society.

Our lives are shaped by the stories we tell about ourselves, and the stories told about us. Those stories are shaped by the narratives embedded in history, mythology, folklore, religious texts even music, art, and architecture.  Narrative gives meanings to systems and distributes power between groups, so true societal transformation requires more than personal improvement, relational change, or even systems reform.  It will require a long-term commitment to narrative transformation.

All identities are relational:  Your understanding of who you are is in relation to who others are.
