A Tribute to Bill Stankiewicz

It's with heavy heart that we announce that one of our beloved board members, Mr. Bill Stankiewicz, has finished his earthly journey. Bill passed quietly and peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2023, after a year of declining health.

Bill was one of the three mayors of Troup County cities who came together, along with the County Commissioner, to address the elephant in the room, the racial divide in Troup County. They charged Ricky Wolfe and Rev. Carl Von Epps with exploring why Council votes at times seem to split along racial lines. Bill was the mayor of Hogansville when the Racial Trustbuilding Initiative began, and he remained a faithful board member until his passing.

Bill and his ability to see the big picture and his willingness to embrace it, will be a huge loss to our community and organization.

We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for Bill's contribution to the work of Racial Trustbuilding. It took a lot of courage to go where no man's gone before. Bill was that man.

Bill remained passionately committed to the hard work of improving race relations among all the citizens of Troup County. Bill's contribution to this cause was genuine, and authentic, and made a huge impact.

Bill faced his final stretch with courage and never showed any weakness. We will miss Bill!
